Ryland Thomas Barden, III "Trey" passed away on Wednesday, May 3rd, 2017. He'd been battling a Traumatic Brain Injury. His brain was gifted to a team of researchers led by Dr. Daniel Perl at the Center for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine to aid in research surrounding Traumatic Brain Injuries and PTSD. The CNRM Research Programs have an emphasis of high relevance to the military populations, with a primary focus on patients at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

Trey was born in Midlothian, VA on January 9, 1995 to the proud parents of Muffy (Martha Gene Matthews) and Tommy (Ryland Thomas Barden, Jr) Barden. He is survived by Muffy and Tommy Barden (parents), Lindsey Ryan Barden (sister), Ryland Thomas Barden, Sr and Anne Langford Barden (paternal grandparents), Philip Gray Tibbs and Betty Byrd Watkins Tibbs (maternal grandparents), Jean Young Matthews (maternal grandmother), Alice Langford (paternal great grandmother), Susan Barden Umbehant (paternal aunt), Gene Carrington Matthews, II "Carey" (maternal uncle), Amanda Matthews Muldoon (maternal sister), Greg and Katie Tibbs Mayer (maternal sister) and many other cousins, friends and loved ones. He is preceded in death by Gene C. Matthews (maternal grandfather) who called him his "mini me".

The family will have a Memorial Service to honor his 22 years of life at Woody Funeral Home at 1020 Huguenot Rd in Midlothian, VA 23113 on Sunday, May 21, 2017 at 2pm.

Trey was an avid golfer. He played in regional tournaments, on the Powhatan Junior High School and Powhatan High School golf teams and on the Lynchburg College Golf Team. He had his first hole in one at the age of 12 while playing in a tournament at the Windy Hill Sports Complex. Janet Phillips at Windy Hill Sports Complex would like to honor Trey by hosting an annual Golf Tournament to benefit the USGA LPGA Boys and Girls Club.
