James "Jim" Kent Willard, 59, of Chesterfield, passed away on Tuesday, March 31, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born February 26, 1956, in Hampton, he was the son of Edwina "Eddie" K. and the late Bert Downing Willard of Smithfield. Jim graduated from Bethel High School in 1974 and went on to graduate from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Apprentice Program. Jim married Diane Hardison in 1980 and they lived in York County, where they raised two children before moving to Chesterfield in 2001. A licensed electrician, Jim worked the last 15 years for Amcor Packaging in Chester. He was a member of the IBEW Local 1340.

Jim was a fixer of all things, a conqueror of projects _ especially those in his yard. He was a comedian, a handyman, and a teller of wonderful stories and jokes. He was a lover of all things outdoors, a golfer, an avid hunter and longtime member of the Spring Meadows Hunt Club in King William County. Jim loved life and he lived it to the fullest, but above all he worshipped his family and dedicated his life to making them feel loved. They find comfort in his stories and memories, and the fact that even at the end of his life he was smiling.

Jim is survived by his wife, Diane; daughter Erin Elizabeth Ala and son-in-law, Matthew Ala, of Midlothian; son Brandon Kent Willard and his girlfriend, Megan Lowe, of Midlothian; mother Edwina "Eddie" K. Willard of Smithfield; brother Michael Downing Willard and sister-in-law, Karen, of Smithfield; brother Bert Joseph Willard of Smithfield; nieces Chelsea Crandol and Kristina Stewart; and nephews William Willard and Joshua Drury and his wife, Karrianne.

A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian, VA 23113, with visitation one hour prior.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that anyone wishing to make a remembrance to Jim to send a donation to The Hawthorne Cancer Resource Center at 1401 Johnston-Willis Dr., Richmond, VA 23235, or to Hunters for the Hungry at www.huntersforthehungry.nra.org. Online condolences can be offered at http://obits.dignitymemorial.com. The family would like to thank the nurses and all their family and friends for their support.
