MARTIN, Berkley Spilman, 82, passed away on March 26, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy Jane Snead Martin; three daughters, Betsy Jones (Mark), Susan Via (Charles) and Kathy Erstling (Mike); grandson, Austin Jones (Kassie); granddaughters, Anna Kate and Olivia Erstling; sisters, Patti Rose Saunders, Judy Thatcher (John); and sister-in-law, Florence Martin; and several nieces and nephews. MARTIN, Berkley Spilman, 82, passed away on March 26, 2015. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Dorothy Jane Snead Martin; three daughters, Betsy Jones (Mark), Susan Via (Charles) and Kathy Erstling (Mike); grandson, Austin Jones (Kassie); granddaughters, Anna Kate and Olivia Erstling; sisters, Patti Rose Saunders, Judy Thatcher (John); and sister-in-law, Florence Martin; and several nieces and nephews. Berkley attended Ferrum College, Randolph Macon College, and graduated from the School of Business at RPI (VCU). Berkley was a partner in several lawn and garden businesses and was a major influence in that industry. He served on several national boards and was awarded trips around the world due to his sales ability. Berkley was a man of the highest integrity and a respected leader in his field. He served proudly in Korea. He was a member of the Tuckahoe Masonic Lodge, Salisbury Presbyterian Church and several civic organizations. He enjoyed many years of golf and social activities at Salisbury Country Club. He was a sports enthusiast and excelled in baseball and basketball. He loved hunting and fishing at the farm in Kenbridge and enjoyed sharing stories of his adventures. His quick wit and love of family and friends will be greatly missed. Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home (Huguenot Road) on Wednesday, April 8, from 6 to 8 p.m., and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, at 2 p.m. at Kenbridge Christian Church in Kenbridge, Va.
