Arthur Derr Riley, 86 , of Richmond Va, passed away peacefully, November 24,2016 . Arthur was born in Westfield ,NJ to Arthur RH and Lillian Jane Riley on May 18, 1930. He served in the US Air Force from 1948 - 1952. Arthur credits this time of his life as important because it provided him his education in Air traffic control and with providing him with the GI bill. This enabled him to attend Churchmans Business College when he returned home. It was here that he met his wife of 59 years, Joan Ann Kirchgassner.

Arthur started his career at JFK airport as an Air Traffic Controller, while he and Joan lived in Queens. Soon after they moved the family to Hauppauge, LI, where Arthur worked at MacArthur Airport, eventually becoming an Area Supervisor. Time spent with his sons at little league and at piano recitals with his daughter rounded out the years there. Years spent after retirement in Kitty Hawk were the most peaceful for Arthur and Joan. He was a Post Commander of the local American Legion. He enjoyed fishing from his dock, boating, and seeing the grandchildren and grandnieces and nephews. He spent time in his workshop where he created many gifts that he shared with so many people.

Arthur and Joan moved to Richmond Va in 2004 to be near their daughter Jane and her family. In his life Arthur was an avid reader, history buff, wood worker, fisherman and train and flying enthusiast. Many holidays were spent ferrying the family to Pennsylvania and New Jersey to see the extended family. Time with everyone was valuable and Arthur liked to spend it well. He had gone by many names in his life. Dad, Daddy, Grandpa, Uncle Art and Honey. He liked to be called Honey the most because he heard it from the one he loved the most, and now he will get to hear it again.

Arthur is survived by his daughter Jane (Rick) Fischer of Richmond Va, their children Katie and Jordan. Dennis (Lisa) Riley of Harrison, Idaho, their children Shannon and Rachael. Andrew Riley and family of Suffolk Va . His sister Cynthia Seamans (Samuel) of Newton , NJ. His sister in law Joanie Riley (David) of Walhalla, SC He is preceded in death by his much beloved wife Joan, His brother David Rile and His sister Carolyn Downs (Bob).

They say his heart broke in February and stopped beating today.
